About Lillypilly Living
My parents came from Lebanon and settled in Fairfield, western Sydney, in 1987. Dad ran a small import business out of a shed on Woodville Road, mostly textiles and housewares he sourced through contacts back home. Mum kept the house running with the kind of practical thoroughness that I only understood much later — nothing wasted, everything had a proper place and a proper purpose. Growing up watching both of them, I absorbed a very specific idea about what a home should feel like. Not a showroom. A place where things actually got used, where the dog slept on something decent and the back patio didn't look like an afterthought. That stuck with me well into my thirties.
Before Lillypilly Living I spent about eleven years in retail buying, mostly for a mid-size chain out of Parramatta. I travelled to trade shows in Melbourne, Auckland, and twice to Guangzhou, and I got a good look at how products moved from a factory floor to an Australian living room. What I noticed was a gap nobody was really filling: practical everyday items for pets and home that were actually designed with Australian conditions in mind, not just relabelled Northern Hemisphere stock. Australian summers, Australian backyards, Australian animals. A kangaroo jerky treat is not the same product as a chicken strip from a Chinese factory. The sourcing decisions matter and most buyers were not making them carefully.
